Excellently built and designed components! I think some clarity to some of the actions would be useful (ie what counts as an attack, can cards that stop someone from moving forward be played after they moved forward but are still in the sailing phase, etc); however, we managed just fine and added home interpretations until an FAQ comes out. Well worth the money - everyone in the family loved it. Our 11y was able to play this (and won the first time). Exciting to play!

I absolutely love this game! Especially at 6 players. Lots of laughs and fun every time we play. I've yet to play it with someone who hasn't had a great time. There are some great player aids you can print off BGG which is helpful for turn overviews and rules.

I really enjoy this game! I feel like a true pirate bartering over my silver and fighting my crew mates to win. From the silver coins to the bamboo cups, I travel through my wildest pirate fantasies and really feel like a salty sea dog. My only issue is the actual rules. It is a hard game to get down the first few run-throughs without needing the rules to help. However once you are experienced with the game and rules you can just pull it out and play. Overall absolutely fantastic game and I love finding new people to play it with!

"Lying Pirates" is a treasure trove of fun and deception, perfectly blending strategic gameplay with the thrill of bluffing. As a board game enthusiast, I found this pirate-themed game to be a refreshing and engaging experience, offering something unique with every playthrough. The game transports you into the shoes of a cunning pirate, where your ultimate goal is to outwit your fellow buccaneers to secure the most treasure. The mechanics are simple yet clever: you must carefully balance truth and lies to mislead your opponents while making strategic decisions to advance your own plundering. This creates a dynamic atmosphere of suspense and excitement, where trust is a rare commodity, and every decision counts. What makes "Lying Pirates" stand out is its accessibility. The rules are easy to grasp, making it a great choice for both newcomers and seasoned gamers. However, beneath the straightforward gameplay lies a depth that encourages repeat plays. The more you play, the better you become at reading your opponents, making each game a fresh and challenging experience. The artwork and components are top-notch, immersing you fully in the pirate theme. The vibrant visuals, coupled with the tactile satisfaction of handling the game pieces, make the entire experience even more enjoyable. "Lying Pirates" is best enjoyed with a group of friends or family who aren't afraid to engage in a bit of playful deceit. The social interaction is where the game truly shines, as it leads to plenty of laughter, surprises, and memorable moments. In conclusion, "Lying Pirates" is a must-have for anyone who loves a game filled with strategy, bluffing, and a dash of pirate flair. It's a delightful mix of tension and entertainment that keeps you on your toes from start to finish. Whether you're a seasoned gamer or just looking for a fun way to spend an evening, "Lying Pirates" is a worthy addition to your collection.

Ich liebe das Spiel. Habs schon in kleinen und großen Runden gespielt und warte gerade auf die Erweiterung. Man muss Bluffen schon mögen.

This game features 3 ‘mini’ games in one: meaning on a given turn you have a betting round (setting players in a bid war or ‘press your luck’ style), a moving game (chess with some strategy based on card play) as you activate tiles that impact the activator, and attacking your fellow enemy pirates (self-explanatory). For newbie gamers it was a fun game to gently enter people into some cut throat situations, easy to pick up the rules and flow, and everyone is busy playing the game on each persons turn (and play order technically shifts every round). Some of the cards can be confusing as to how and when they apply, but the interpretation can make for a simple ‘house rule’ or ‘vote’ from the players. Easy to setup (love the magnetic board), enjoyed the Kickstarter version that includes both sets of ships and nice dice, and a great game for new and old gamers alike. The game takes longer than 60 minutes for 6 players, plan for 90-120 for the first time, perhaps 60 the second go around.

A fantastically themed game. No expense spared with excellent quality pieces. The magnetic board is a great idea and saves the tiles sliding around during play. The game flows nicely and has proved a huge hit with my board game group. I have also contacted the company with some additional ‘non standard requests’ (specific to my board gaming group) and they have been incredibly helpful, professional and willing to help. I can tell they are also true board gamers. Great job on the game and looking forward to many pirates battles in the future!

I supported the Kickstarter, and I must say it's now one the favourites of mi collection. It's fun, quick, and beautiful. The quality of the materials on everything is great, from the cards, to the cups and dices. A lot of details and time invested on it. I have had great laughs with my friends playing this game, and paired with alcohol even more. I don't give it a rating of 10 because the rules are sometimes confusing and it seems like it needs some more work on it and clarification. Apart from that, I highly recommend this game. YAAAAARRRRR!

Fun game. Excellent quality materials includes the magnetic board pieces players rearrange for every game you play. Expansion pieces for additional players are thoughtful. Solid game play too: from card drafting rules, pirates dice rolling and guessing to battle mechanics and ways for players to catch up even if well behind… keeps all players engaged.

A great game with wonderful production quality that is always great to get on the table for a game with friends. The core mechanic based on the classic liars dice in the betting phase lays a good foundation for the gameplay loop that causes fun social interactions and excitement that gets even better over time when a group becomes more familiar with how the other players are acting and assessing the information given in the dice rounds. After the betting phase the following sail phae and action phase with its disruption and interaction is simply a blast with a lot of "take-that" and countering "gotcha" moments where I have a lot of fond memories of, and it's even more fun when grudges carries over to the next round.

I've only played this once so far, but me and everyone I played with really enjoyed this game. The basic rules were fun, and I can see there is plenty of variability between each game. I'm excited to play with more variants, as the basic rules are fun but some of the mechanics introduced in the variants seem like they would make the game far better than it already is.

Quite a simple betting game with a lot of dice chucking and healthy amount of player interaction. The components are incredible quality and really make the game stand out on the table, however without these flashy bits it is a simple game that perhaps does not justify the price and may not appeal to people wanting a more crunchy pirate affair. Nevertheless this was a ton of fun and I can't wait to table it again.

KS Deluxe Edition. It’s a pretty fun party game based on liars dice. Great fun with the right group and the quality of components are excellent. Ignore the 1 star reviews (and the 10 star reviews for that matter) - it’s not the deepest game in the world, but it never intended to be and if you have an hour to fill in your gaming group this would be a perfect fit. The sail aspect of the game is a touch too easy but the card aspects and dice aspects are both really fun.

What I love: The pace of the game The tavern feeling The player interaction The components What I don't like: The rulebook is too random. was looking for specific details about end game but that was found under "Sail Phase" and not "End Game". Just to give one example. The "Tile Legend" sheet could have had smaller pictures and been 2 -sided.

Enjoyed playing this game twice with the beginner layout and rules: first with 2 players (+phantom) and then with 3 players. The 3 player game went much better, but that could be do to knowing the game better as it was my second try. I had a lot of fun and will def play it again with different tiles and addons. Can't wait! Only downside I can think of for now is the rulebook. The basic rules are clear to begin with but as we play questions with no answers come up (e.g. what is considered an attack? Only does done with the battle dice or also card caused "attacks" using the treasure dice?). Also, the layout of the rules can be better and I personally like a lot of pictures presenting the different situations. For example, I got confused with the special dice is which since the colouring in the rule book is off. But maybe that's just me. I alsi agree with other commenters that think the tile legend could have been more compact and fit in one double sided page, but this doesn't bother me that much. So far a great load of fun!

What can I say, I'm a pirate haha. Love the theme of this game and finally got to get it to the table since backing the kickstarter! Absolutely a blast to play! However will probably need to do a few more plays to bump it up or lower it due to the dice mechanic. Had lost a few dice one play through and it can get rough when theres lower dice counts on the table.

Roll and bluff game, more of a partygame. Components are very good, and match the theme. There is a racing element on the board as well, but it's more about the gambling and bluffing. Adjusted the rating, played it more often and it's quite allot of fun as a party game.

An overall good game. I really enjoy playing it every time it gets on the table. Quality of the deluxe version is just perfect. Only 2 things bothers me in the game though: First, i think, only the winner of the betting phase should activate the tile he's on after throwing the sailing die. The only benefit you have from winning the betting phase is the gain of one silver coin. that's not much. I'm ok to battle out the tile if the winner moves with another player on the same tile, but if he's alone, he should be the only one to activate his tile. Second, i don't like the way cards are played in the action phase. being able to play cards in any order adds unneeded chaos. Some cards can be so easily countered that you rather want to hold of some of them if you know others players didn't play any cards yet. I think, cards should be played in order starting from the winner of either the betting or sailing phase.

Very funny game which is perfect as a warm-up for more complex games. Artwork and components are really high quality and the game mechanics is simple and easy to learn. Betting phase is the funniest part as you want to read others’ bluffs and try to muffle adversaries in any possible way. I would always accept a quick game!

I played the game with my boyfriend. It's fun however I would recommend more players since it gets a bit boring after a while with two people. Despite that, it made me feel like a real pirate :D. If it says anything about my liking of this game, I also 3D printed a custom pirate chest card holder for this game because it deserved it. GAMEPLAY I like it, it's simple yet interesting and can take you through an emotional rollercoaster at times since things can happen that either are in your favor or put you behind out of nowhere. However, I feel like sometimes it can be a bit hard to get any chance to win if you happen to be unlucky. There is some strategic gameplay, however, a lot of things depend on your luck or your skill of bluffing. There are some cases where the game can be a bit unbalanced like mentioned before where one person can easily dominate the game giving others a tiny chance of winning, which could have been improved on during development, however, thankfully it's a board game, and rules can always be altered. QUALITY I cannot stop admiring the game itself. It looks gorgeous and the quality is supreme. Everything feels so premium (I also got the premium edition, however, the base set is just as good). You even get plastic card sleeves which is great for a person like me who gets panic attacks any time someone touches my cards with dirty hands. I even made a card holder to honor the great craftsmanship of this game. PLAYERS I played it with two people (me and my boyfriend) and it worked quite great with the additional NPC player, however, it can be very confusing at times how to play with the NPC character, but we tried to make it work somehow. However, if I was to play it next time I'd make sure to invite some friends or family over since I'm sure it'd be more fun this way.

Piraterie, Bourgeoisie !

How to Play Lying Pirates
Bluff, Sail, and Conquer
Race your pirate ship around the map to reach back to the base tile first.
A clever turnless game where you're kept on the edge of your seat at all times!
Your cup holds crew dice. More dice means more influence. Gain or lose them through tiles and cards.
Betting Phase
Cutthroat Bluffing
Inspired by classic dice betting games, players roll hidden crew dice and wager on totals—raising, locking, or calling a bluff at exactly the right moment.
Roll your crew dice, bluff on totals, raise, lock, or call liar: winner leads, loser skips, survivors tag along.
Sail Phase
Treacherous Seas
The leader rolls the sail die and advances ships 1–2 tiles onto unique event tiles, each with its own effect.
The winner and survivors then enter a Tile Event Battle, using battle dice to determine who gets to resolve the tile event.
Action Phase
Ruthless Ambition
Players may play their Gold or Silver cards, using them to attack rivals, defend against threats, or influence the game in other ways.
Feel Like a Pirate
Unlike traditional board games, Lying Pirates keeps everyone engaged at all times. This turnless race means no downtime—just constant anticipation as alliances shift and fortunes rise or fall in seconds.
Fans of social deduction board games will enjoy the tension of reading opponents and deciding exactly when to take a risk.
A Storm of Lies and Loot
Premium board game components bring Lying Pirates to life!
Bluff with custom engraved crew dice tucked in natural bamboo cups, and attack with linen-finish action cards that feel as refined as they look.
Magnetic tiles and metal coins add a satisfying weight to the experience, making the game as tactile as it is strategic.
High-Stakes Battles on Deadly Seas
Strategic decisions meet unpredictable chaos.
Each tile brings a new twist: from sea monsters to duels, storms to treasure hauls.
The experience evolves with each step. You roll battle dice, chase glory, and pray the tile doesn't turn on you.
A Pirate Rush With No Mercy
The Cities of Greed expansion dials up player interaction.
Influence Cards let you reward allies, sabotage rivals, or backstab anyone in your way.
With zero downtime, everyone stays in the action - reading the table and striking when the moment is right.
It's a lively mix of fast decisions, social strategy, and shared laughs.
